Zion's Kolob Canyons
The Kolob Canyons section of Zion Park is located along I-15, south of Cedar City. It includes the western-most portion of the park. A Visitor Center is conveniently located along the road leading into this area.
The Kolob Canyons area offers stunning views of Zion's trademark cliffs and canyons. There is only one road into this area. It is paved and winds up a steep mountainside, providing access to viewpoints, trailheads and a picnic area.
Popular hiking trails located here including Kolob Arch, Northgate Peaks, Timber Creek, North Fork Taylor Creek and many others. Kolob Arch is the second-largest natural arch in the world.
The terrain here is rugged, as is the case in most areas within Zion Park. It is not possible to drive directly between the three main regions within Zion Park. In fact, it is difficult to hike between them.
Many grand vistas are available from the paved Kolob Canyons Road. However, much of this area is backcountry and can only be seen by hiking.
